Hawks Fly Over Panthers In Men's Soccer

Box Score
HAMBURG, N.Y. – Two different Hawks were credited with scores, but it was a total team effort in the Hilbert College 2-1 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win over visiting Pitt-Bradford in men's soccer on October 15.

Stingy defense and aggressive offensive play by the royal and white contiue to drive Hilbert to their 3-2 AMCC record (5-7 overall). Bradford dropped to 1-4 in league standings and fell to 4-9 overall.

It was just a few quick minutes before Matt Hamister scored his seventh goal of the season which gave Hilbert a 1-0 lead. He was relentless early on, driving shots at Adam Forster, Bradford's goal keeper, at point blank range. Finally, his own rebounded-shot off Forster's chest found its way to the upper right corner in the fifth minute of the contest.

Bradford responded in the 12th minute when Seth Levy feed Brian Bao with a nice soft pass up the middle which Bao then directed past Jeremy Kraska's outstretched arms. Both teams carried the 1-1 tie to half time after playing almost identical soccer the first period.

The Hawks came out firing in the second half, dominating the shots attempts (15-2). It was at 64:25 when Blake Barker (Edward Minkel assist) brought the ball to the box and sailed it past Forster for his first game winner of the season.

Forster (10 saves) came up with two really big saves late in the game when he broke up a certain Jon Davison goal at 55:21 and a point blank shot by Blake Barker at 63:29.

Kraska was credited with only two saves but he broke up several crossing passes and grabbed center passes off long throw-ins or corner kicks.

The Hawks are in the thick of things still fighting for a play-off spot. They will celebrate their five seniors (Michael Gee, Josh Walsh-Steines, Yonis Osman, Jeremy Kraska and Edward Minkel) this upcoming weekend, October 19, when they host Penn State Altoona at 1pm.
