Emily Speidel earned her second career Hawk of the Week honor as her senior leadership and timely scoring helped the women’s basketball team to a 1-1 record last week as they continue to battle for post-season play.

The senior guard totally 19 points and grabbed three rebounds along with two assists.

Speidel started the fourth quarter rally against Alfred State.  She knocked down a pair of 3-point shots starting Hilbert’s fourth quarter run.  The Hawks battled back from a 47-38 deficit and suffered a one-point loss with a chance to win it at the buzzer.

The Maryvale product then poured in 13 points in the Hawks 71-43 AMCC victory over Franciscan on Saturday.   Speidel plastered back-to-back shots from downtown just when Hilbert needed them the most.  Her efforts in the second quarter allowed the hosts to stretch their lead to eight points before half time.  And then the 5-6 shooter added two more in the third session lifting Hilbert to a 19-point advantage.

Just as she winds down her four-year career at Hilbert, Speidel is inching closer to becoming the All-Time leader in 3-point field goals.  She currently has 110 3-point field goals made and needs just 13 more spaced out over the next four games to claim the top spot.  Speidel continues to be the #1 career free throw percentage lead with a .752 percent (94-125).
