Jalen Smith impressive offensive effort last week earned him a second-consecutive Hawk of the Week honor for the men’s basketball team who went 1-1 during the week.
Smith averaged 27.5 points and four steals per game. He shot 57.7 percent from the field and 43 percent from the 3-point line while connecting on 83 percent of his shots at the charity stripe.
In the Hawks’ 84-69 victory over Houghton Tuesday night, the junior guard shot better beyond the arc, hitting 4-of-7 shots (57.1%) than the floor (50%). He reached double-digits at the foul line, making 10-of-12. Smith was credited with four assists and four steals against the Highlanders.
Over the weekend, Smith scored 29 points, tying his career-high scoring record set this month, in 28 minutes after a late-game disqualification prevented him from padding his points. The southpaw knocked down nine field goals and nine free throws while swiping four steals in the tough 92-88 overtime loss at Alfred.
