Junior Sal Carroccia earned his second Hawk of the Week honor this year after lifting Hilbert to a 7-4 must-win victory against Penn State Altoona.

Carroccia earned two starts this week and performed well in both.  He coasted in the first three innings of work against D’Youville when he struck out two while giving up three hits and one earned run.  He handed off the ball and rested his arm for a must-win game on the weekend.

The Lackawanna native then strung together nine innings of work against Penn State Altoona.  He gave up hits and runs early in the game, but didn’t lose his cool.  He dug-in at the start of the 6th  inning and gave up only two hits.  When the Hawks bats got hot and Hilbert took their first lead, Carroccia used his skill to strike out a pair and to force the other four batters to ground-out in the final two innings.

Carroccia finished the week with nine strike outs, two earned runs and 12 hits.  His work on the mound secured the program’s first AMCC post-season appearance.
