Hilbert College Athletics

Calvin Crosby was introduced as Hilbert College's first full-time head coach for both the men's and women's volleyball programs in January 2020. He was tasked with restarting the men's volleyball program which had been dormant since 2017.Crosby also carries additional duties within the athletic department as Athletic Operations Assistant after serving as the Camps and Clinics Coordinator in 2020 and 2021.

Both Hawk programs have shown a marked improvement since he guided his first full season in  the fall of 2021. 

Crosby guided the Womens' program back to the playoffs for the first time since 2013-14 with a 3-6 AMCC record in 2024-25. The Hawks earned three crucial wins down the stretch to mark the team's most conference victories in ten seasons and earn in spot in the AMCC postseason tournament.  Katie Kociszewski became the first player to garner All-Conference honors since 2015 and she became the program-leader in Block Assists during the campaign.

The 2023 season, loaded with underclassmen without a senior, exploded out of gate and earned seven wins before October, the program's fastest start. The Hawks team fed off the experience and confidence of a pair of transfers - sophomore setter Jessee Jonathan and libero Natalie Ruhlmann. Ruhlmann set two new single season records in digs (393) and digs per set (4.47) as the team finished the season at 7-14.

The 2022 women's team broke a string of win-less seasons, earning their first victory in three years September 3rd against Clarks Summit  University.  Crosby guided Hilbert to victories over University of St. Joseph and two more over SUNY Poly.

Crosby shifted the men's program in his first full-season in the spring 2022, after the 2021 season suffered a scaled-back, AMCC-only match schedule.  The 2022 Hawks earned the program's first victory on February 12 with a 3-1 triumph over The Sage Colleges and claimed two AMCC wins over Mount Aloysius College to close the season with a 3-23 overall and 2-14 record.

Between the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, Crosby has led the Hawks to 18 total wins, including seven in the AMCC, while coaching four All-Conference honorees in that span. Brad Converse was named to the AMCC Second-Team twice, while being joined by George Muriel as a second-teamer in 2024-25. Tyler Hassell became the first Hawk to be named to the conference's First-Team under Crosby in 2024-25 after setting the new program record hitting percentage record. Converse (service aces) and Nikolas D'Andrea (service aces/set) each also established new program records under the leadership of Crosby.

Crosby continued to develop and change the culture within the team in his third season, and he led the Hawks to the program's very first AMCC post-season tournament in 2023. Hilbert (9-16) concluded the North/South AMCC schedule with a 6-7 league record and earned the 3rd seed in the north division only to face the top seed in the south division in playoffs.  Junior Brad Converse (2nd Team) and sophomore Alex Overhoff (3rd Team) were recognized for their talents and earned All-Conference honors.
 
Crosby graduated from Medaille College in 2017 with a degree in Secondary (History) & Special Education. While at Medaille, Calvin received numerous athletic and academic honors in both the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) and North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) as a student-athlete.  The 6-7 Opposite was voted to the AMCC All-Conference First Team 2015 and AMCC All-Conference Second Team 2016. Despite missing a month and a half of the 2017 season from surgery to repair a torn meniscus, Crosby earned NEAC All-Conference First Team, AMCC All-Conference First Team and was named the AMCC Co-Player of the Year in 2017.  The Pendleton, N.Y. native helped the Medaille Mavericks post back-to-back NEAC regular season and championship titles (2015 & 2016).  Crosby, a 2016 Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Academic Honor Society inductee, earned AMCC Academic All-Conference recognition all four years, Peak Performer status the last three years and was named a NEAC Scholar-Athlete twice.
 
Before arriving to Hilbert, Crosby also had experience coaching locally with the Niagara County Volleyball Club (2019-2021), Lockport Volleyball Club (2018-2019) and Niagara Frontier Volleyball (2021). Crosby served as an assistant to both Starpoint varsity boys volleyball (2017) as well as the men's volleyball team at Medaille College (2018-2019). He also served as the head girls JV volleyball coach, and assistant varsity girls volleyball coach at Starpoint High School in 2018 & 2019.
 
Coach Crosby was also selected to the inaugural Niagara Frontiersmen Professional Volleyball team in 2022 as part of the Volleyball League of America (VLA).
