After serving as the Mixed Golf part-time head coach during the fall 2023 season, Laura Edholm accepted a larger role within the Hilbert College campus community.
She was named the Associate Athletic Director | Title IX Coordinator while also continuing to serve as the head coach for the Men's Golf program.
Then on, January 9th, 2024, Edholm was introduced as the very first head coach for the new Women's Golf program that will begin competition in Fall 2024.
"I am thankful for the commitment of President Dr. Brophy and Athletic Director Tim Seil to separate our coed golf team into a men's and women's program to provide more competitive opportunities for ladies to compete," said Edholm. "It's such an exciting time to help grow the sport and to enhance the athletic offerings at Hilbert. I look forward to building a competitive team for Fall 2024."
Edholm, in her first year at Hilbert after several successful seasons at Medaille University, guided the Hawks to multiple program records in 2023. Four golfers established new career low scores, the team won three tournaments (Hilbert Invite | Elmira Invite | Keuka Invite) prior to their record breaking AMCC Championship single-round (326) and tournament final score (667); as well, two Hilbert players were recognized as AMCC All-Conference golfers (Michael Petrus – Second Team & Reese Chase – Third Team).
Edholm is no stranger to athletics in Western New York. She joined the Hawks athletics program after proudly serving, since 1997, the Medaille University student-athletes.
During her 26-year tenure at the North Buffalo campus, Edholm held multiple roles for the Mavericks athletic department. She ended her time at Medaille as the college's Athletic Director and Head Golf Coach.
Edholm was tasked with directing and managing the athletics department while spearheading their fundraising efforts. She was the Advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Her personality and sport knowledge allowed her to serve as head coach for four different sport programs over the 25 years.
She led the Golf team in 2021 and 2022 after battling back from the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, the Tonawanda resident guided the women's bowling program to four AMCC regular season championships (2015, 2019, 2020, 2021) and three consecutive AMCC Tournament Titles. Her 2018-19 team, after winning 60 matches, took the AMCC's first-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Before her time on the lanes, Edholm directed the Medaille Softball team from 2012-2016 and spent time on the hardwood leading the Women's Volleyball program from 1999 until 2005.
She was named the AMCC Women's Bowling Coach of the Year four times. She recruited and developed multiple All-Conference, Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year athletes, in each sport she coached.
Edholm was a Division I golfer and volleyball player while studying at Coastal Carolina and continues to hold the second and third highest single season total of service aces for the volleyball program. She was named to the 1992 Big South Volleyball All-Tournament team. She currently resides in Tonawanda with her husband John and children, Tyler (Niagara '22) and Ryan (Canisius '25).
