Jeffrey Hartman enters his first season as an assistant men’s volleyball coach this spring, 2016.

Hartman will assist Christopher Krueger with all facets of running the Hawks’ volleyball team as they enter their second season in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.  Hartman is a local product, having graduated from Hamburg High School, and his familiarity with the college and western New York will be a bonus for recruiting to the Division III program.

Hartman was a three-year member of the Mercyhurst men’s volleyball program before the Lakers dropped the sport after the 2008 season, just before his final campaign.  The Outside Hitter closed his career with 244 kills and 295 points (1.63 points per set).

Because the NCAA did not, and still does not, sponsor Division II for men’s volleyball, the Lakers competed in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA), which consists of national powers like Ohio State, Ball State, Loyola of Chicago and others.  Mercyhurst struggled for success and the institution made a tough decision to eliminate the program after 12-seasons of competition.

Hartman was named to the MIVA Academic All-Conference team all three seasons.

In high school, Hartman was a two sport athlete, excelling in both volleyball and track and field.  He was recognized as an All-Western New York volleyball player in 2004 and 2005 and his Western New York volleyball team won the gold medal at 2004 Empire State Games. Hartman was named to the All-East Coast Tournament team in 2002 and his club volleyball team won East Coast Championship in 2004 & 2005.

Hartman graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in marketing from Mercyhurst in 2009.
