Sam Smith enters his first season at Hilbert as a running backs coach for the Hawks football program.
Smith joins the staff with nine years of coaching experience throughout the Western New York area. He has coached at the high school, college and semi pro level with his most recent experience as being the assistant offensive coordinator under head coach Nick Todaro at Maryvale High School (Cheektowaga, N.Y.). While serving as the offensive coordinator for the South Buffalo Celtics, he helped lead his team to a Semi Pro National Championship win in 2012.
Smith, a 2009 captain, was a four-year running back at Buffalo State College. He played in 29 games, collected 1,555 total yards (5.8), scored nine touchdowns, averaged 4.7 yards receiving his senior campaign and averaged 19.3 yards in kick returns.
He was a four-year varsity starter at Hutchinson Central Technical High School (Buffalo) and played in two Harvard Cup Championship games.
Smith earned an Elementary Education degree from Buffalo State.
