HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Hilbert College Women's Volleyball bounced back from a first-set loss with a convincing second-set victory but ultimately fell to Houghton in four sets Tuesday evening at the Nielsen Center. The Highlanders earned the match by scores of 25-21, 16-25, 27-25 and 25-18.
After dropping the opening set, the Hawks responded with their strongest stretch of the night in the second frame. Hilbert recorded 11 kills and hit .259 as a team while holding Houghton to a .063 hitting percentage in a 25-16 win to even the match.
The third set proved to be the turning point. Hilbert battled Houghton through eight tie scores and three lead changes before the Highlanders escaped with a 27-25 victory to regain the match advantage.
Houghton carried that momentum into the fourth set and closed out the match with a 25-18 win. Despite the result, the Hawks finished with 39 kills, 61 digs, nine service aces, and 16 total blocks.
Lezly McComber led Hilbert with eight kills and a .412 hitting percentage, while
Onolee Easterbrook also added eight kills.
Lindsay Madigan compiled a strong all-around performance with 24 assists, four service aces, 10 digs, and five total blocks.
Defensively,
Jade Schiller posted a match-high 21 digs and four aces, while
Ciara Grey and
Jordan Austin added 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Hawks head to the North Country Challenge this weekend for four matches between Friday and Saturday, beginning with a matchup against Keuka College on Friday at 5 pm.
