ALFRED, N.Y. – The Hilbert football team controlled possession for nearly 48 minutes and rushed for more than 200 yards Saturday evening, highlighted by a 124-yard, two-touchdown performance from
Jeremy Ganska in a 57-12 road loss to Alfred State at Pioneer Stadium.
The Hawks finished with 246 yards of total offense and held a decisive 47:22 to 12:38 advantage in time of possession, running 75 offensive plays compared to just 30 for the Pioneers.
Alfred State scored five first-quarter touchdowns, including scoring drives of 57, 39, 96, and 62 yards along with a punt return touchdown, to build a 35-0 advantage after the opening 15 minutes. The Pioneers added two more touchdowns in the second quarter and returned an interception for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Despite the deficit, Hilbert continued to move the ball on the ground throughout the game. The Hawks produced 211 rushing yards, led by Ganska's 35-carry, 124-yard effort.
Noah Workman added 30 rushing yards, while
Jeremiah Rey contributed 25 yards and
Jaylen Barnett-Hunter added 24.
Hilbert broke through in the fourth quarter with a six-play, 33-yard drive capped by a nine-yard touchdown run from Ganska at the 6:09 mark. Later in the quarter, the Hawks marched 59 yards in seven plays, with Ganska finishing the drive on a 10-yard touchdown run to account for the final margin.
Defensively,
Kaden Beckerink and
Neven Dermady led the Hawks with four tackles each. Dermady also recorded a tackle for loss, while
Zach Brown added a tackle for loss among his two stops.
