HAMBURG, N.Y. — Hilbert College Softball battled Pitt‑Greensburg in a Saturday doubleheader at FSSJ Field, but the Bobcats came away with a sweep, taking the opener 13–2 before closing the day with a 12–2 victory.
Game One: Pitt‑Greensburg 13 – Hilbert 2
Pitt‑Greensburg jumped out to an early lead in the opener, scoring three runs in the first and adding a six‑run second inning to build momentum early. The visitors added three more in the third before the Hawks got on the board in the home half of the frame.
Hilbert responded in the third with its first run of the day. After
Sadie Plotkin doubled down the left‑field line,
Charly Mathews came in to run and around to score on a
Kaitlin Stolowski RBI double to center field. The Hawks added their second run in the fourth, when
Shelby Schimek reached base and later scored on a
Brenna Mulvaney RBI single.
Despite limiting Pitt‑Greensburg in the later innings, the early deficit stood. Stolowski finished with two hits and an RBI, while Schimek added a double as Hilbert totaled five hits.
Kimberly Bentley and
Alana Yadov combined in the circle, with Yadov settling things down after entering in relief.
Game Two: Pitt‑Greensburg 12 – Hilbert 2
The nightcap followed a similar script, as Pitt‑Greensburg plated four runs in the opening inning and added three more in the second. Hilbert answered immediately in the bottom of the first when
Ava Higgins drove in
Emma Gionta with a two‑out RBI single, giving the Hawks an early run.
After a quiet middle portion, Hilbert struck again in the fourth inning.
Victoria Koenig reached base and advanced into scoring position before
Grace Schwarzkopf delivered an RBI single to center field, trimming the deficit. The Bobcats, however, responded with a five‑run fifth inning to pull away and close out the contest.
Emma Gionta led the Hawks offensively in game two with a pair of hits, while Schwarzkopf,
Shelby Schimek, and
Ava Higgins each collected RBI hits.
Stephanie Mirras made the start in the circle, with
Alana Yadov and
Kimberly Bentley also seeing action in relief.
