MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Hilbert College Softball continued its early‑season southern trip on Saturday with a pair of matchups, earning a 2–1 victory over New Jersey City in the opener before falling 8–0 to Delaware Valley in the afternoon game. The Hawks received strong pitching performances and timely offense in both contests as the team closed the day with a split.
Game One: Hilbert 2 – New Jersey City 1
Hilbert found its offense in the third inning of the opener after two quiet frames on both sides.
Emma Gionta drew a walk and
Jazlynn Soliz followed with another free pass before
Alana Yadov delivered a two‑run single to right that put the Hawks in front 2–0. New Jersey City threatened in multiple innings, including a fifth‑inning push that produced its only run on an RBI single, but the Hawks held strong defensively.
Kailey Stolowski anchored the opening win, tossing 4.2 innings with six strikeouts while allowing just two hits and no earned runs.
Kimberly Bentley closed the door with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to preserve the 2–1 result. Offensively, Hilbert finished with three hits including knocks from Gionta, Yadov, and
Shelby Schimek.
Game Two: Hilbert 0 – Delaware Valley 8
Delaware Valley wasted no time gaining control in the second matchup, striking for six runs in the first inning behind a combination of extra‑base hits and Hilbert miscues. A triple, double, and multiple RBI swings highlighted the surge before the Aggies added two more in the third to push the lead to 8–0.
Hilbert's best offensive moments came in the second and fourth innings, with hits from
Kailey Stolowski and
Shelby Schimek creating brief sparks, but the Hawks were unable to bring a runner home against a strong pitching performance from Delaware Valley's Tessa Fredericks, who held the Hawks to two hits across five innings.
Stephanie Mirras stabilized the game in relief, allowing two unearned runs over 3.2 innings while keeping the Hawks within reach despite the early deficit.
Highlights
Hilbert's pitching staff shined in game one, with Stolowski and Bentley combining for six strikeouts and allowing only three hits. At the plate, Yadov's two‑run single provided all the offensive support needed. Schimek recorded hits in both contests, while Gionta reached base three times across the doubleheader. Mirras' steady work in relief highlighted game two, helping limit further damage after the early Delaware Valley surge.
