HAMBURG, N.Y. - Hilbert Men's Volleyball dropped a straight-set decision to Penn State Behrend tonight inside the Hafner Recreation Center, falling 3-0 (15-25, 18-25, 17-25) in AMCC play.
The Hawks (1-7 AMCC) battled throughout the match but were unable to slow down a Behrend offense that hit an efficient .347 on the night. Hilbert showed flashes of improvement in the second set, trimming errors and posting their best hitting percentage of the match (.158), but the 8-2 Lions maintained control to secure the sweep.
Nikolas D'Andrea paced the Hilbert attack with six kills, while
Mehkai Francis added three kills and contributed on both ends with two blocks and two assists.
Justin Veal made his presence felt at the net, leading all players with four blocks and chipping in two kills and an ace.
Brinton McClain and
Jacob Sehn split time facilitating the offense, tallying seven and six assists respectively. Defensively, Sehn led the Hawks with seven digs, followed closely by
Michael Pozzuto with six.
Despite the loss, Hilbert found positives at the net, out-blocking Behrend 4-4 and showing improved defensive effort in stretches. The Hawks gave away 10 points off service errors but got an impressive ace from
Justin Veal while the Lions recorded 17 service errors yet secured nine service aces in the win.
Hilbert returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a 1:00 pm AMCC match against Carlow University. The 3-18 Hawks will host a Senior Day celebration for
Nikolas D'Andrea,
Mehkai Francis and
Garyson Gaud before they host the win-less Celtics from Pittsburgh.
