BUFFALO, N.Y. – Hilbert Men's Volleyball fell on the road this evening, dropping a 3-0 decision to conference-leading Buffalo State University in AMCC action at the Sports Arena.
The Hawks (3-11, 1-2 AMCC) battled throughout the match but were unable to overcome a strong Bengals attack, falling by set scores of 25-10, 25-18, and 25-18.
Hilbert showed improvement as the match progressed, tightening up offensively after the opening set. The Hawks recorded 21 kills on the night, highlighted by a dominant performance from
Nikolas D'Andrea, who led all players with 15 kills while adding an ace and a block.
Justin Veal chipped in three kills and a block, while
Michael Pozzuto added two finishes.
Running the offense,
Mehkai Francis dished out 19 assists and contributed defensively with four digs and two blocks.
Jacob Sehn and
Garyson Gaud anchored the back row with seven digs apiece as Hilbert totaled 25 digs as a team.
After hitting .000 in the opening set, the Hawks responded with more efficient swings in the second and third frames, but Buffalo State's balanced attack and service pressure proved to be the difference.
The Bengals finished the night with 32 kills and a .245 hitting percentage, while also totaling seven service aces and eight team blocks.
The Hawks continue on the road this weekend when they travel to Utica for a trimatch at SUNY Poly against the Bears from SUNY Potsdam at 4 pm and the host Wildcats at 6 pm.
