HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's soccer team erased an early deficit and briefly took the lead Saturday afternoon, but Mount Aloysius scored the final goal of the match to hand the Hawks a 3-2 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss at Hawk Field.
The Mounties struck just 1:12 into the contest when Zack Marshfield found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage. Hilbert responded in the 15th minute as Brian Frazer finished a pass from Vincent Nkurunziza to even the score at 1-1.
The Hawks continued their strong first-half response and grabbed the lead in the 28th minute. Frazer turned provider this time, setting up Hamso Dagane for his team-leading goal and a 2-1 Hilbert edge.
Mount Aloysius answered before halftime, converting a penalty kick in the 43rd minute to send the teams into the break tied at 2-2.
The visitors regained control in the second half despite a standout effort from Hilbert goalkeeper Colten Wolowski, who finished with nine saves. Mount Aloysius broke the deadlock in the 61st minute for the game-winning goal.
Wolowski kept the Hawks within striking distance throughout the final 30 minutes, making several key stops at goal. Hilbert's offense was efficient, scoring twice on just four total shots, with Frazer recording a goal and an assist while Dagane added the other tally.
