Softball Suffers Elimination Game Defeat at AMCC Tournament

BRADFORD, PA – Hilbert College Softball continued play at the AMCC Postseason Tournament this afternoon in an elimination game against the fourth-seeded Penn State Behrend Lions.

After opening the scoring and taking an early 2-0 lead, the Hawks would eventually see their season come to an end after a 5-2 defeat to the conference's defending champions.

How it Happened
  • After singles from Emily Lacki and Brooke Feliciano to open the game, and a walk by Jazlynn Soliz to load the bases, Kailey Stolowski and Mackenzie Catan each used a free pass to bring in a runner for a 2-0 Hilbert lead after the opening frame of this elimination game.
  • The scoreboard remained unchanged after the third inning, but the Lions took control of the game with a three-run effort in the bottom of the third for a 3-2 advantage.
  • With the Hilbert offense slowed down, Behrend tacked on runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 5-2 and add insurance heading into the game's final frame.
  • Hilbert looked to rally as singles from Miyah Lopez and Feliciano, as well as walks from Catan and Lacki loaded the bases, but a double play and a fly-out kept Hilbert from bringing any runners home and coming back in the contest.

By the Numbers
  • Kailey Stolowski and Catan each recorded an RBI, while Feliciano led the team with a pair of hits.
  • Lacki (1-3, 1 BB), Soliz (1-2, 1 BB), and Catan (2 BB) all joined Feliciano on base multiple times in the game for the Hawks.
  • Kailey Stolowski made the start in the circle and went five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, while Kimberly Bentley tossed a scoreless frame in relief, allowing just one baserunner.
All-Tournament Team
  • Jazlynn Soliz and Brooke Feliciano were each named to the All-Tournament Team following this afternoon's contest.
  • The duo were the only two Hawks to record a hit in both games of the tournament as Soliz hit 2-5, while Feliciano went 3-6 over the last two days.
  •  Soliz tied for the team lead this weekend with one RBI, while Feliciano's one steal and two runs both led the Hawks.
Season Recap
  • Following a 7-9 AMCC campaign, Hilbert qualified for the postseason for a second straight season.
  • During the regular season, the Hawks earned home sweeps over defending champions, Penn State Behrend, and the conference's top seeded Penn State Altoona Lions.
  • Four Hawks (Mackenzie Catan, Emily Lacki, Kailey Stolowski, and Samantha Heppel) earned Hawk of the week honors this spring.
