HAMBURG, N.Y — Hilbert College Men's Soccer fell to 1-2 in AMCC play this afternoon with a 3-1 defeat to Penn State Behrend. The Hawks struck first early in the contest, but the Lions used three straight goals to earn the conference win.
The Hawks (4–4–1, 1–2–0 AMCC) found an early lead just 4:44 into the match, taking advantage of a free kick opportunity.
Jacob Korte quickly played the ball in to
Cam Murdie, who found the back of the net to open up the 1-0 advantage.
Penn State Behrend answered in the 16th minute, however, when Reilly Nickles converted off long throw in from Brock Kiefer to even the score at 1–1. The Lions continued to press, forcing goalkeeper
Daniel Downes to make two more stops before the break to preserve the 1-1 scoreline.
When played resumed in the second half, the visitors capitalized on another long throw, with Daniel Christafano finding the back of the net this time in the 53rd minute. Cole Thomas added an insurance goal in the 73rd off an assist from Fin Dengel to put the game away.
Hilbert generated 10 total shots, including six on goal, led by
Jason Vullo and
Ryan Michelsen. Behrend held a 25–10 advantage in total shots and a 5–2 edge in corner kicks.
