BLUFFTON, OH – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball team returned to action in a two-day, four match weekend at the Somer Center Spiketacular hosted by Bluffton University. 

The Hawks dropped a 3-0 match to the University of Olivet in a 5 pm match before closing the first night out with a straight set loss to the 10-1 Bluffton Beavers.

HOW IT HAPPENED, OLIVET 

• After a 4-4 tie in the first set, Olivet used a 9-1 run to take control of the set and go up 13-5.  

• In the second set, the Comets led by seven points on several occasions. The Hawks trimmed their deficit down to three points before Olivet used a late surge to win the set. 

• Hilbert held an early two-point lead in the third set. Down 7-6, the Comets scored the next three points and did not give up the lead for the rest of the set. 

Individual performances will be recorded once statistics are made available 

HOW IT HAPPENED, BLUFFTON 

• The Hawks finished the match with a .084 attack while the Beavers recorded a .181 percentage.  Hilbert collected five service aces but gave up 13 points to the host from their service line. 

• The Hawks went nine players deep who played in all three sets.  

• Meghan Balen and Molly McKinnon (10 digs, two service aces) each recorded a team-best six kills with McKinnon being the primary target on attack. 

• Jessee Jonathan dished 11 of Hilbert's 24 assists and Emily Garnett (two block assists) earned two service aces while Lynndee Ickes led with four block assists. 

• Mackenzie Mitchell recorded her first double digit digs performance after posting 10. 

UP NEXT 

The 1-5 Hawks return to Somer Court for two matches tomorrow. Hilbert will face Wilmington College (0-7) at 12 pm and conclude the tournament with a 2pm match against Denison (4-4).
