HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College Softball hosted Pitt Bradford this evening in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader. After falling in a close 7-5 game in game one, the Hawks were held hitless in an 11-0 defeat in game two.
Game 1:
The pitchers started out hot in this one, keeping the offenses off the board in the first three innings. Hilbert starter
Alana Yadov allowed just one hit in this span, making quick work of the Panther offense.
Pitt Bradford broke the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the fourth and extended their lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning.
A huge two-out four-run rally by the Hawks in the bottom of the fifth inning gave Hilbert their first runs and lead of the day. A two RBI double from
Alana Yadov, RBI double from
Samantha Heppel, and RBI single from
Victoria Hanley did the damage for the Hawks.
Emma Gionta and
Emily Lacki also recorded hits in the frame.
The Panthers responded to these Hilbert runs with the game's next four runs, scoring three times in the top of the sixth and once in the top of the seventh to make it a 7-4 game when the Hawks stepped to the plate for the final time.
The Hawks started out the bottom of the seventh with singles from Yadov and Heppel, and a sacrifice fly from Hanley to make it 7-5, but a double play would end the game that way with Pitt Bradford earning the game one victory.
