HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert Men's Soccer hosted the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference postseason game in program history this afternoon as Pitt-Greensburg came to Hawk Field. In an intense and competitive contest, the visiting Bobcats used a set-piece goal to earn a 1-0 win and advance to the semifinals.
The first half saw four shots on net, with each side firing a pair.
Jacob Korte and
Cam Murdie each tried their luck, but Greensburg keeper Brett Barnes sent aside both shots that were destined for the top of the frame. On the other end,
Logan Peck stopped both attempts sent his way in the opening 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless at the break.
When the second half began, the Bobcats controlled the ball and the pace of play. 15 minutes in, the visitors would be rewarded for their strong play as a long free kick from Arlo McIntyre was headed in the back of the net by Nick Ricciardi for the crucial opening goal of this AMCC playoff game.
Now facing a 1-0 deficit, Hilbert turned up the pressure in search of an equalizer. The Hawks looked to even the game in the 77
th minute after Murdie rose up and redirected
Carter Burke's cross, but Barnes stopped the ball on the goal line to keep his team in front.
A late chance by
Gavin Cline forced another great save from Barnes, before Murdie saw his third shot of the game stopped in the 88
th minute as Greensburg held strong and made their 65
th minute tally the difference in a 1-0 first-round win.

This loss concludes one of the most successful seasons in Hilbert Men's Soccer history. After a 4-3-1 conference campaign, the Hawks earned the right to host this match, the first home AMCC playoff came in program history. When the team returns to play next fall they will look to earn a fourth consecutive trip to the conference tournament.
