MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Hilbert College Football traveled to Morrisville this afternoon to take on the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs on Drake Field. In the 38-8 loss to the Mustangs, the Hawks' defense posted their best outing of the season, holding the Morrisville offense to 268 yards with just 109 passing yards.
Hilbert dominated time of possession (41:24 to 18:36) but Morrisville took advantage of short fields and capitalized with touchdowns on three drives that began in Hilbert territory.
The Mustangs opened the scoring on the game's first drive, going 60 yards on six plays to take a 7-0 lead after Chris Stancarone found Quamel Jarvis for an eleven-yard score.
After both squads punted the ball on their next possession, the Hawks began to move the ball with a pair of first downs, but a fumble set up the Mustangs inside the Hilbert five-yard line.
Stancarone punched it from one yard out on the ensuing possession to double the Morrisville lead with 14:27 left in the half. Another Hilbert punt led to Stancarone's third total touchdown of the half, and second passing score as he found Joey Chirurgi for a 36-yard connection and a 21-0 advantage. Morrisville would tack on three more points on an Owen Cole field goal to take a 24-0 lead to the locker room.
A Hilbert opening possession fumble would lead to the fourth Mustang touchdown of the day as Jarvis ran 41 yards for his second touchdown to make it 31-0. Stancarone added his third touchdown through the air of the contest as Morrisville took a 38-0 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Hilbert erased the zero on their side of the scoreboard with an 18-play, 94-yard touchdown drive that melted 12:06 off the clock.
Avante Hicks,
Clifford Zeigler,
Brody Hopkins,
Bryce Robinson, and
Joey Lovett each carried the ball on a drive that ended with a ten-yard strike from Hopkins to
Jon Whitaker in the front corner of the Mustang endzone.
Matt Bertke converted on the two-point try to make it 38-8, which is how this Empire 8 contest would end.
