Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Andrew Loveless

Men's Soccer Wins Second Straight AMCC Contest with Victory over Greensburg

GREENSBURG, PA – Hilbert College Men's Soccer traveled to Greensburg this afternoon for a crucial Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest against the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. In a battle of 2-2 AMCC teams, the Hawks came out on top 3-2 to pass the Bobcats and jump to fourth in the conference.

John Schroth, Jason Vullo, and Carter Burke each found the back of the net for Hilbert (3-7-2, 3-2) while Daniel Downes made five stops in his third conference victory of his rookie campaign.

After taking the game's first shot, Vullo kept the pressure on as his run in behind the Bobcats defense forced a foul and a penalty kick for the Hawks in the 18th minute. Schroth stepped up and buried his second of the season from the spot for an early 1-0 Hilbert advantage.

When it looked like the Schroth goal would stand until the whistle, Greensburg struck quickly on a break in the 44th minute to set up a decisive second half as the teams split the goals in the first 45 minutes.

Vullo continued his early half offense in the second, collecting a goal of his own this time. Vullo's 55th minute tally gave Hilbert their second lead of the game. The Hawks would extend the advantage ten minutes later on a Carter Burke finish off a Chris Smith pass to make it a 3-1 game.

However, just five minutes after the Burke goal, the Bobcats found their second of the game to make it 3-2 and set up an interesting final 30 minutes.

The defense of the Hawks did well to limit the offense of Greensburg in the last half hour of the game, allowing just one shot. Downes was up to the challenge, stopping the final shot of the game to wrap up the 3-2 victory for Hilbert.
