HAMBURG, N.Y. The Hilbert College Men's Golf Team is geared up for the 2024 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament this week.
The Hawks are traveling today to Butler, Pa. for a practice round in advance of the two-day tournament which begins tomorrow and runs through Tuesday afternoon.
Coach
Laura Edholm thinks the Hawks are ready and focused on challenging the top golfers in the league this week. "I am hoping our guys can come out and play up to their potential and play with confidence." They have seen several of the best in our league most recently at the back-to-back events we hosted in WNY last week. Now all our Hawks just need to do is relax and land their shots.
Leading the way is senior
Matthew Whelan, who through six matches, carries an 84.17 average while carding a season-best 80 the second day of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic. Junior
Gabe Prohaska strung together an 85.83 average and has challenged Whelan each match for the best score.
Joshua Kacalski (87.50),
Brady Fye (87.50) and
Alex Rumfola (94.0) have the ability and are capable of doing well at this championship event which could place Hilbert in the top tier of team scoring.
The 2024 AMCC Tournament is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, October 14th and 15th as a two-day, 36-hole, stroke-play event hosted Butler Country Club. Monday's first pairings will tee off at 9:00 am followed by another 9:00 am start on Tuesday with pairings shuffled after the completion on Monday's scores.
The tournament team champion will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament which will be held May 20 – May 23, 2025 at Midvale Country Club (Penfield, NY).
