HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Men's Volleyball team swept Wells College this year after they recorded a 3-0 Match victory.
Prior to the start of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game, seniors
Ed Brust and
Dylan Suter were honored in a Senior Day celebration and then they helped the Hawks take three, 26-24, 25-15, 25-22.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks earned 50 points of their team's points off 38 kills, nine service aces, and three blocks. Hilbert was also credited with 34 assists and 38 digs in the three-set match to the Express.
Wells recorded 30 kills, one service ace and five blocks which combined to their 36 team points.
- Hilbert and Wells were neck-and-neck early in the first set until the Hawks broke an 8-8 score with five straight points. Hilbert maintained control through to an 18-16 lead, then the Express forced a Hilbert timeout now trailing 19-21. Wells stretched their lead, 23-20 then Brad Converse recorded a kill and Nick Diello and Chris Laboy were credited with a block assist to pull within one. Hilbert then put the game away with four consecutive points after falling behind, 24-22. Alex Overhoff's service ace to the backline claimed the first set win.
- The second set was a different feel than the opening game. Hilbert went on multiple runs and built a 19-8 lead before rolling to the 25-15 win. The Hawks were credited with 17 kills, led by Converse and Alex Overhoff who each tallied five.
- Neither team manufactured a lead larger than three points until Hilbert built a 19-15 spread. Ryan Levcik pulled the Hawks out of a one point deficit (9-10) and scored three straight service aces to jump on top 12-10. Wells rallied late in the game pulling within one point (21-22) before Converse and Overhoff finished with kills and Mehkai Francis won the match from the service line.
Brad Converse led with 15 kills and seven digs while
Alex Overhoff added 11 kills and three service aces.
Seniors
Dylan Suter and
Ed Brust gave quality minutes on the court. Suter finished with two kills and three digs while Brust collected three kills, and two digs.
Austin Chandler recorded 24 assists, one kill, five digs and one service ace as
Ryan Levcik added nine assists, three aces and one dig in the third set.
Luis Garcia led the Hawks with eight digs and
Chris Laboy added four kills, and seven digs.
UP NEXT
No. 5 Hilbert (8-13, 5-5 AMCC) returns to the Hafner this Saturday for another AMCC contest. The Hawks will face No. 5 Hiram College (7-13, 5-5 AMCC) for the first time this season in a 1:00 pm game in the Hafner Recreation Center.
