HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released the 2023 Golf Season Awards and both
Michael Petrus and
Reese Chase were recognized as All-Conference performers.
Today's announcement marks the third consecutive year that
Michael Petrus (North Collins, NY/North Collins) was named a Second Team All-Conference Golfer while
Reese Chase (Prattsville, NY/Gilboa-Conesville) records his first postseason honor as a Third Team player.
Petrus finished his final season with an 81.67 average over nine matches this fall and Chase earned his best average, 82.50, in his three-year career at Hilbert.
Penn State Altoona's Peter Nusbaum was named the AMCC Golfer of the Year after leading the conference's scoring average (74.57) and Pitt-Greensburg's Cyrus Parvizi earned the AMCC Newcomer of the Year honor. Altoona's Tom Koehle picked up his third Coach of the Year award in the last four seasons after leading the Lions to the AMCC team championship title.
Chase and Petrus battled all season long to see who the top performing Hilbert golfer would be each match. Chase opened his fall carding his career best 78 at the Pennhills Club and shot a 79 at the Elmira Country Club. Petrus scored a 79 twice (Elmira and Day 2 of the AMCC championship) while carding a pair of 80s (Hilbert Invite and Day 1 of the AMCC championship).
The 2023 Hawks golf team earned three tournament titles (Hilbert, Elmira and Keuka) as a lead-up to the program's best finish at the AMCC Championship Tournament. Hilbert set several new team records at the final tournament of the season. They carded a new team low score on Day 2 (326), a 36-hole tournament low score (665) and the highest finish (fourth-place) under first-year Hilbert head coach
Laura Edholm.
