Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Andrew Loveless

Vullo's Hat Trick Leads Hawks to Road Win

BRADFORD, PA – Hilbert Men's Soccer went on the road and earned a gutsy 3-2 win tonight under the lights vs Pitt-Bradford. Jason Vullo scored all three goals for the Hawks in the crucial conference win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Despite much of the play occurring in the Bradford end to begin the game, and Hilbert taking the first two shots of the match, it was the hosting Panthers that got on the board first. A 19th minute breakaway goal by Brady Hathaway got them out to a 1-0 lead.

However, the first of Vullo's goals came just two minutes later. Andrew Herstek played a clever back-heel pass to Vullo at the top of the box, where the Hawks' striker found the back of the net to knot the game at 1.

Vullo quickly added a second after a perfect through ball over the top of the Bradford defense by Carter Burke. Vullo made no mistake on the breakaway to give the Hawks the 2-1 lead. Chances each way were denied, and the 2-1 score remained when the referee blew the whistle for halftime.

In his first action for Hilbert, freshman Zachary Caito set up Vullo for his third of the game to begin the second half. Caito's header sent Vullo through on goal for another breakaway tally, and to complete his hat trick. The 52nd minute goal extended the Hilbert lead and made it a 3-1 game.

The comeback effort was on for the Panthers, as they got one back just under four minutes after the Vullo goal. Gladwin Timothy's shot from the top of the box snuck just inside the post to cut the Hawks' lead to one.

Following the goal, the defense of the Hawks held the Panthers shotless, protecting goalie Logan Peck, and preserving the road win.

GAME NOTES
  • Vullo continues to dominate Pitt-Bradford, with five goals in two career games vs the Panthers.
  • With the win in net, Peck is now tied for the program lead with nine career wins.
