Hawks Beat Wells 4-1

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Men's Soccer team returning to winning ways after they earned a 4-1 non-conference victory over Wells College this afternoon.
 
Carter Burke scored both his two hits 12 yards out as the Hawks broke the seven-year losing streak against the Express.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Hector Harris put the Hawks on the score board finishing a Carter Burke serve at 26:02.
  • Jason Vullo was fouled in the box in the 27th minute and Burke PK shot was low and to the left corner lifting Hilbert by two points.
  • The Hawks continued to push through to intermission and held a 2-goal advantage after outshooting the Express 11-5 and playing to a 4-1 margin in corners.
  • Carter Burke was fouled early in the second half and that incident led to another PK attempt.  The freshman midfielder connected again without the clock running and gave the Hawks a three-goal cushion just seven minutes into the second period.
  • About 20-minutes later, Wells' John Castaneda placed a ball to the back of the net slicing the margin.
  • Hector Harris would continue on later by scoring his second goal of the game giving Hilbert a 3-score lead.

GAME NOTES
 
  • The Hawks outshot the Express 15-7 throughout the competition which also led to a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Hilbert made good use of their substitutes having a total of 18 players play today.
  • Harris led the Hawks with 10 shots, six on target, and Burke followed with five shots, three on goal while going 2-2 in PK. 
  • Logan Peck finished with six saves as he earned his third victory of the season.

Next on the schedule for the Hawks is Elmira College who will travel to Hamburg next Wednesday, September 28th for a 2 pm start.
