HAMBURG, N.Y. – The first ever NCAA football game for Hilbert College was a packed stadium at St. Francis High School's Polian Family Field. A beautiful summer day didn't go as planned for the Hawks as the Big Red from Denison University took control of the game early and never let up.
The final score was not indicative of the level of effort presented by the Hawks on the day.
Taivaughn Roach was flying around on defense accounting for 13 tackles including 2 tackles for a loss.
Jeremiah Caviness went 5 of 9 passing for 78 yards and gained 6 yards on the ground. He also had a nontraditional formation punt that netted 40 yards.
Jalen Henlon was the primary running back for the Hawks picking up 55 yards on 19 attempts. Punter
Scott Essig averaged 30.4 yards per punt on 7 punts.
Denison had 7 straight drives that resulted in touchdowns. QB Drew Dawkins had 236 all purpose yards and 4 passing touchdowns before being pulled in early in the 3rd quarter. Backup QB Owen Fallon added another touchdown for the Big Red early in the 4th quarter. Denison had 4 rushing touchdowns – 3 by Trey Fabrocini and 1 by Vincent Cognetta. The final score was 63-0.
Up Next – Willamette University travels to play Hilbert next weekend. Kickoff between the Bearcats and the Hawks is set for 12PM at Polian Family Field. Hilbert College Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at halftime! Admission is $5. Hilbert students, staff, and faculty are free with ID.
