Hawks Softball Takes First AMCC Win in Walk-Off Fashion on Senior Day

HAMBURG, N.Y.  – Chloe Champagne earned her first career walk-off hit as the Hilbert College softball team earned their first AMCC win of the season, 7-6, against Pitt-Greensburg this morning.

The Hawks then celebrated and honored the careers of seniors Kaitlyn Barone, Victoria Grayson, Gabrielle Jansen and Emma McNamara in a Senior Day ceremony before the start of the night cap.

Greensburg split the series earning an 11-4 win.

Hilbert improved to 3-23-1, 1-13 AMCC and Greensburg slipped to 6-25, 4-10 AMCC

GAME ONE
  • Greensburg put a pair of runs on the board in the 1st and added an additional one in the 3rd before the Hawks responded in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Grayson and Brionna Raiser-Russell both set hits up the middle of the diamond.  Then with two outs, Cailene Dupras singled to center field and knocked in both base runners which trimmed the Bobcats lead to one (3-2).
  • Greensburg added three more runs over the next two innings, but Hilbert matched their efforts in the bottom of the 6th.
  • McNamara opened the inning by beating the throw to first after the catcher dropped the third strike ball.  Grayson earned a base on balls and Raiser-Russell's single pushed McNamara home.  After the baserunners each stolen bases, Dupras knocked in Grayson and sent Raiser-Russell to third, which set up the RBI single by Hannah Coken to complete the inning's scoring.
  • Greensburg placed runners on first and second in the top of the 7th, but the Hawks defense kept the Bobcats from adding to their six runs.
  • Makenna Smith tripled to center and knotted the game off Raiser-Russell's fielder choice hit.  That's when Champagne singled up the middle and plated Grayson for the win.
  • Hilbert finished with 10 hits as Makenna Smith earned a double and a triple, while Cailene Dupras (3) and Brionna Raiser-Russell (2) posted multi RBIs in the win.  Four different Hawks were credited with stolen bases led by Grayson and Raiser-Russell's two each.
  • Rebecca Marmorato earned her second win of the season, went the full seven innings giving up 10 hits, four earned runs and two walks while striking out two.
GAME TWO
  • The Hawks matched the Bobcats 1 for 1 after the first inning, and Hilbert took a 4-3 lead before the start of the 5th inning.  Pitt-Greensburg manufactured eight runs over the final three innings for the 11-4 victory.
  • Emma McNamara led with two hits (both doubles), one RBI and one run scored while Makenna Smith added another double bagger to her day's total.
  • McNamara plated Smith in the first inning and Hannah Coken's single RBI up the middle sent McNamara home in the bottom of the 4th.  Champagne knocked in Coken and Grayson for the day's final runs in the fourth.
  • Hannah Coken went six inning in defeat giving up 12 hits, three earned runs and struck out three.
