MEADVILLE, Pa. - Finally, after twenty-two days off, the Hilbert College softball team returned to action in a non-conference double header at Allegheny College this afternoon.
The Hawks surrendered five runs in the bottom of the 6th, dropped the first game to the hosts before darkness forced the night cap into a 7-inning tie.

Game 1: Allegheny 11 – Hilbert 3, 6 innings
Game 2: Hilbert 1 – Allegheny 1, called because of darkness

GAME ONE
- Both teams belted a home run early in the game. The Gators knocked in three runs in the bottom of the 3rd and Makenna Smith's poke over the left center fence pulled the Hawks within one run after she pushed two in for the Hawks in the 4th.
- Allegheny built a 4-0 lead through three innings before the Hawks pulled within one run by the middle of the 5th. The Gator matched Hilbert's 5th inning efforts when they scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth setting a 6-3 score. Allegheny manufactured five runs in the bottom of the 6th and won the first game, 11-3.
- Hilbert earned seven hits off 25 at bats with Smith leading the way with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
- Rebecca Marmorato (0-4) gave up six hits, six earned runs while striking out two through five innings.
GAME TWO
- After giving up one run to the Gators in the bottom of the 1st, the Hawks defense held tight and limited movement around the bags the rest of the game.
- Smith singled up the middle at the top of the 4th, advanced to second of an Emma McNamara sac bunt and moved to third on a wild pitch. She sprinted home off Hannah Coken's sac fly and knotted the game 1-1.
- Hilbert left five on base and Allegheny stranded six before darkness forced the game at 7:50 pm.
- Smith and McNamara each earned two hits and Coken, who earned her first complete game of her career, gave up nine hits and one earned run.

The Hawks are scheduled to host Geneva College this Saturday , April 2 in their home opener at the FSSJ Field at in a 1pm non-conference double header.
