Burke Scores In Men's Soccer Play-Off Loss

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Hilbert College Men's Soccer team went down in defeat to Alfred State College this afternoon in the Hawk's first post-season appearance in seven seasons.

The No. 3 Pioneers earned a 6-1 victory and advances into a semifinal game in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament next week.

The No. 6 Hawks finished the year at 5-10-2 overall and went 2-5 in league action after being a preseason favorite to finish in 8th place in the 8-team league.

Alfred State, as they did just a few days ago, found another quick goal in the opening minutes of the game.  But Carter Burke found the back of the net 13 minutes later to knot the game at 1-1 at 16:59.

The Pioneers took over after that and stretched their 3-1 halftime lead to 6-1 by the final horn.  A-State built a 29-3 advantage in shots with a 10-1 margin in corners.

Carter Burke, Jason Vullo and Beckham Blair were each credited with a shot while Burke and Vullo's were on goal.

Logan Peck went the full season (all 1530:00 minutes) in goal and today added 10 more saves to his career total.

The Hawks, under Jonny Black's leadership, will regroup and use today's postseason loss as the next step in progression for each year.  "I can't wait to get going next season with new recruits, building a bigger roster as we prepare for a competitive 2023 soccer season."  Black "thanked the seniors for everything they have done for the team this year hopefully setting the program off for new heights going forward."
