Men's Volleyball Falls to Penn State Behrend

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's volleyball team fought hard against Penn State Behrend, but ultimately fell to a 3-0 defeat in the Hafner Recreation Center this evening.

  • Final Score:  Penn State Behrend 3 (25/25/25)   Hilbert 0 (7/16/7)

  • Records: Penn State Behrend 4-6 (3-3 AMCC), Hilbert 0-5 (0-5 AMCC)
HIGHLIGHTS
 
  • Marcus Wloch led Hilbert with two kills and the lone block. Dylan Suter tied for the team lead along with Wloch with 15 total attacks.Stephen Houghton provided steady play as well, leading the team with four assists and six digs.
  • Joshua Elegeer led Behrend with 10 kills and three services aces, while Diego Ortiz finished with 18 assists and 11 digs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions took a commanding lead right out of the gate in set one, going up 12-0 off of strong serves from Joshua Elegeer, including three service aces. The Hawks would score three of the next five points, but the Lions would regain their stride after that and cruise to a 25-7 victory.
  • Penn State Behrend started set two strong as well, taking a 10-3 lead early, but Hilbert battled back behind strong play from Marcus Wloch and Dylan Suter to cut the lead to 20-12, but it was a little too late as Behrend would hold off the Hawks rally to take set two 25-16.
  • Diego Ortiz was the hot hand in set three off the bench, leading the Lions to a 17-3 advantage after a 10-0 run. The Hawks struggled to get the offense going, as they fell 25-7 again in set three.
GAME NOTES
  • The Hawks totaled five kills, four assists, one block and 19 digs.
  • The Lions posted 35 kills, 32 assists, five service aces, one block and 38 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT

Men's Volleyball is back in action tomorrow as they host Geneva College at 7pm to wrap up the home portion of their 2021 spring schedule.
