BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hawks softball team dropped a 3-0 defeat to D'Youville College April 30 at Dobson Field.
After the Buffalo Cup loss, Hilbert split the cross-town rivalry points and AMCC series as they moved to 14-13 overall and 8-7 with a hold on 4th place in the league standings. The Spartans improved to 12-16 and 6-8.
The Spartans put two runs on the board in the top half of the first inning. Within the same play, two different Hawks committed errors giving up the first run and a stolen base gave D'Youville their early lead.
An RBI triple in the 3rd lifted D'Youville to the win.
The Spartans were on the move again in the 5th, but an impressive double play by center fielder
Hallie Barone and 1st basewoman
Gabriella Bongiorno cleared the bags again. D'Youville's next batter tripled again but that baserunner was thrown out in a heady play by
Morgan McNeill and
Morgan Grosch as she attempted to steal home, but was tagged off the bag at third.
Marisa McIntyre finished the complete game with one earned run off seven hits and six strike outs.
The Hawks return to action two more times this week. They host Medaille College in the final Buffalo Cup series of their schedule in Hamburg at 3pm May 1. Then, in their final regular season game, Hilbert will travel back to Dopson Field May 3 for a 6pm make-up game against Mt. Aloysius.
