COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's lacrosse team extended their win streak this afternoon after they posted an 18-5 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory over SUNY Cobleskill.
The Hawks (5-2) ensured themselves a spot in the NEAC semifinals next week after the earned their 5th consecutive win.
Hilbert scored multiple goals in each quarter and put the game out of reach by half time.
The Tigers found the back of the net twice before the Hawks went on a 10-0 run, taking a 10-2 lead into intermission. Cobleskill scored twice in the third and their final goal in the last seconds of the game. Otherwise the Royal and White tacked on five markers in the third and three in the fourth for their 8th win of the season.
Statistically it was a close game. The Hawks committed three few turnovers, secured six more ground balls and won only one more face-off than Cobleskill. But Hilbert was efficient on offense building a 10 shot advantage (36-26) and almost doubled the hosts up on shots on goal (28-15) while going 23-of-24 in clears.
James Duffy controlled the Hawks' pace collecting 10 points through eight assists and a pair of goals.
Joshua Schindler carried his hot stick to the field again as he scored four goals off six shots and added an assist while
Edward Mathias matched his scoring efforts with assist efforts (3/3) for 6 points.
Ryan Spath won 10 face offs, scooped seven ground balls and scored a pair of goals while
Tyler Balsavage earned game-high honors with five caused turnovers, along with five ground balls and scored his first goal of the season.
Grant Stockman was credited with four caused turnovers and matched
Travis Hicks' efforts as they each grabbed four ground balls. And both of
Michael Bellanca's goals were man-up hits.
Elijah Ryan evened his season record at 1-1 after making 10 saves in 60-minutes in goal.
The Hawks (8-5) have one game left on their regular season schedule. They welcome Cazenovia College to the Varsity Field for the April 28th 1pm game. The coaching staff and team would like to invite their families and friends to arrive early Saturday for the pre-game Senior Day celebration the program will host for six graduating players –
