Softball Battles In A Behrend Sweep

ERIE, Pa. – The Hilbert College softball team returned to action today with an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Penn State Behrend.

The Lions took the first game 5-0 as their pitching staff limited the Hawks to three hits.

The hosts then held on for a 7-4 sweep over the Hawks in another adventurous spring weather event.

GAME ONE:

Behrend earned their first run off the second batter and scored two unearned runs before but Rachel Allen got out of the inning with a pair of strike outs.

The Lions added two more runs in the bottom of the 3rd which created the final 5-run spread.

Hannah Prenoveau and Morgan McNeill each connected for hits in the fourth and McNeill made contact again in the 7th as they became the only baserunners for the Hawks during the game.

Allen tossed a complete game giving up two earned runs off seven hits while striking out four.

GAME TWO:

The Hawks posted single runs in the 1st and 4th innings before they notched a pair in a late-game rally in the 6th inning.  Behrend  built a 4-1 lead through three innings and then matched Hilbert's efforts the rest of the way (3-3) earning their 17th win of the season.

Gabriella Bongiorno (2 runs)  and Jenna Castricone went 2-for-3 as they each knocked in a run in the night cap.  Morgan Grosch grabbed two runs as she and Catricone poked doubles in the loss.

Marisa McIntyre went 6.0 innings and finished with four earned runs off 11 hits and one strike out.

The Hawks (5-10, 0-4 AMCC) are scheduled to play at Pitt-Bradford Friday, April 13th before they host Penn State Altoona on Saturday, the 14th.  Stay connected because the weather forecast for WNY looks dismal for the weekend.
