MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – After a 60-minute delay to the start of their only game today, the Hilbert College softball team suffered a shutout loss in six innings to Kings College (Pa.).
The Monarchs (6-2) slowly stretched their hold on the Hawks with a 3-0 lead by the bottom of the fifth inning, then exploded with a five-run, game shortening 6th inning, posting an 8-0 victory.
The Hawks had runners on the bags all game but they struggled to get around the horn for scores. Eight runners were left on base as Hilbert closed the game with three hits and only three strike outs on offense.
Rachel Allen (1-3) tossed 73 pitches through 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs, four hits and posted one strike out.
Hilbert (2-5) has the night off as they prepare for a pair of games tomorrow. The Hawks will face Chatham University at 3:30 pm and battle under the lights against Brevard College at 5:30pm. Both games will be live-streamed for out of town fans to view.
