MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Hilbert College softball team regrouped on day two of Fastpitch Dreams Classic claiming an early morning 9-2 win against Penn State Abington. The Hawks returned to the diamond for a late afternoon game against University of Mary Washington. The Eagles pulled out a 10-3 victory in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
Hannah Prenoveau went 4-for-5 and scored two runs while knocking in one RBI as Hilbert improved to 1-2 after the morning win.
Junior
Rachel Allen tossed a complete game and posted her first double-digit strikeout game of the season.
Sophomore
Gabriella Bongiorno (3-for-5) and freshman
Sam Shallcross (2-for-4) each finished with 2 RBIs while four other Hawks contributed to the 9 RBI stat-line.
Delaney earned the opening RBI in the second inning with a bases-loaded single to the Lion's shortstop.
Castricone's single sent Bongiorno home and
Morgan McNeill's hit pushed
Morgan Grosch to the plate lifting Hilbert 3-0 by the middle of the third inning.
Shallcross poked a ball to center field and Prenoveau trotted home in the fourth before Abington scotched a 2-run double to left field putting the Lions on the scoreboard (5-2).
Grosch, Prenoveau and Shallcross each added single RBIs while Bongiorno sent two home in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Allen went three up – three down in the bottom of the third inning and seventh inning to secure her first victory of the season. She faced 28 batters, struck out 10, gave up two earned runs and seven hits.
GAME TWO
The Hawks were tied 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning but a routine catch in the field turned into an inside the park home run stretching the Eagles, 5-1.
Hilbert put two more runs on the board in the fourth inning, but Mary Washington had already built an 8-1 lead en route to their 10-3 victory in six innings.
Junior
Morgan McNeill earned a 2 RBI single in the fourth scoring Grosch and Shallcross.
Marisa McIntyre gave up four earned runs with four strike outs in the 5.2 innings pitched.
John Hall's Hawks return to the diamond in the morning for a 9:30 am game against Penn State Harrisburg and an 11:30 match against Dean College.
