MARCY, N.Y. – Hilbert College dropped in defeat to SUNY Poly this afternoon in the women's lacrosse team's first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the season. The Wildcats went on multiple runs each half as they earned a 19-4 league victory at home.
Josephine Ban posted two goals off six shots, scooped four ground balls, caused two turnovers and won three draw controls. Brooklyn Gormel led the Hawks with six ground balls and four draw controls while scoring Hilbert's first goal.
The Hawks went 1-for-5 on free position shots and it was
Aaryonah Vaughn who connected in the second half, and
Alayna DeFazio led with almost half of Hilbert's seven caused turnovers.
Ashley Repine was credited with six saves in just over 55-minutes of action.
Calista Mis made her debut in goal earning one save during the final four minutes of play.
SUNY Poly controlled the pace of the game, outshooting Hilbert 33-19 and attempted 14 free position shots which they converted into eight goals.
The Wildcats built a 2-goal lead after 10-minutes of action. Gormel found the back of the net in the 18th minute before SUNY Poly tacked three straight scores on. Ban scored an unassisted goal at 11:20 and the hosts closed the half with four more goals setting up a 9-2 half time separation.
SUNY Poly posted seven consecutive scores before Ban beat the goalie at 13:07 in the second period. Vaughn put the final point on the score board with 25-seconds remaining.
Hilbert returns to action tomorrow with a home game against Hiram College. The 0-4 Hawks will host the Terriers at Nichols School in a non-conference 5pm start.
