Hawks Softball Picked up 8th Win of the Season Today

CRESSON, Pa. – The Hilbert College softball team made a day-trip to Mount Aloysius College today and returned to WNY with a split decision.  The Hawks claimed a 6-3 win and then dropped an 8-4 loss.
At 8-8 overall (2-2 AMCC), the 2017 Hawks have already matched last season's win results and AMCC wins.  Rachel Allen earned her first win and Marisa McIntyre took her third loss of the season.

GAME 1 –

Brittany Cooley and Gabriella Bongiorno each earned two RBIs off one hit as six different Hawks scored runs in the first game today.  Jenna Castricone went 2-for-4, scored one run and knocked in one RBI.  Morgan McNeill matched Castricone at the plate with two hits and one scored run.

Rachel Allen pitched a complete game giving up four hits, three earned runs and struck out five.

Mt. Aloysius took an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning and held on until the Hawks posted four runs in the 4th.  After the Mounties scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, they trailed the Hawks 4-3 as Hilbert swung their bats in the top of the 7th.  Bongiorno reached on an error giving Rebecca Bailey and Hannah Prenoveau time to sprint home.  Allen went through three batters for the win.

GAME 2

Mt. Aloysius connected for 11 hits and combined for five multi-base hits.  Hilbert's Bailey and Bongiorno each hit doubles in the second game while Brittany Cooley reached for a triple.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead after Bongiorno stole home in the top of the 1st inning.  The hosts strung together four singles and posted five runs in the bottom of the 4th and that newly created four-run lead held through the final out of the game.

Hilbert scored three runs as a result of three Mountie errors and but were not credited with any hits in the top of the 6th.  Victoria Dzaak reached base on an error and scored Morgan Grosch and Castricone.  A pass ball gave Cooley a chance to make it home.

Mt. Aloysius tripled and followed with a double and a single to start the bottom half of the 6th and added three additional runs setting the final 8-4 score.
Marisa McIntyre tossed 3.1 innings and gave up five hits, five earned runs as well as striking out four.

Hilbert returns to central Pa. next weekend when they play at Penn State Altoona April 8.
