Turnovers Hurt Hawks in NEAC Loss

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-8 NEAC game to Bryn Athyn in the team's home opener this morning.

The Hawks built a 2-0 lead to start the game and held their edge, 5-3 after 15 minutes of action.  Byrn Athyn closed the first half with five unanswered goals taking an 8-5 advantage to the break.

The Lions tacked on three more goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half and took an 11-5 lead at 17:20. Hilbert matched Bryn Athyn's success-rate in the second half effort narrowing the gap back to a three-goal margin.

Ashley Repine made eight saves in the cage for Hilbert while the Lions' goalie was credited with nine.

Hilbert won 13 of the game's 21 draw controls, forced 16 Bryn Athyn turnovers and scooped 25 ground balls but went 8-for-12 on clears and finished with 24 turnovers. 

Bryn Athyn went 14-19 in clears and finished with 16 turnovers which helped them to outshoot the Hawks (27-21).

Emily Gawlak set a new Single Season record for Points as she picked up five points more today scoring four goals and winning seven draw controls.    Brooklyn Gormel added three markers, earned five ground balls and won four draw controls.

Jennifer Cheatom was tough on defense causing two turnovers and picking up three ground balls.

Hilbert (1-6, 0-4) returns to the grass field tomorrow for their NEAC game against Penn State Abington at 1pm.
