Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Put a Scare in the Panthers

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's volleyball team didn't make life easy for Pitt-Bradford tonight in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference actions.

The Hawks dropped three sets (25-8, 25-20, 25-21) to the Panthers, but in the process forced their opponent into calling more times outs than Hilbert did tonight.  (*** Due to laptop/software issues, the game stats will be posted as soon as possible).

Hilbert took a slim lead in the first set (6-5) before Bradford ran away with the game behind service aces, kills and Hilbert attack errors.

The Hawks regained their composure in the second set, built a 7-4 lead and forced a Panther timeout.  Bradford had to fight to take a 16-12 advantage but it was a long climb as the Hawks played great and challenged them at the net.  Hilbert got within one point (15-16) and forced another Bradford timeout. But timely hitting and strong serving gave the Panthers the second set, 25-20.

The final set mirrored the second with Hilbert gaining an edge early, but holding onto it much deeper into the set.  The Hawks stretched their lead to five points (18-13) before then hit the wall with attack errors.  Bradford strung together kills and service aces to set the score at 19-19.  Once it got there, Hilbert called only their second timeout of the match as they lost their momentum.  The Panthers went on a 4-point run and won the match on a service ace.

Sierra Seader led with five Hilbert kills as Torianna LeWand did her best with seven assists and four service aces.  Since there were so many free balls in the match, the Hawks were not credited with many digs.  But Ashley Repine collected 4 blocks (2 solo) while she and Seader shared two block assists which kept Bradford on their toes offensively.

The Hawks (1-19, 0-6 AMCC) will travel to Mt. Aloysius this weekend for a 1pm contest October 21.
