Lions Out-run Hawks in Softball

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Hilbert College hosted Penn State Behrend tonight and dropped a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference softball games under the lights at Dobson Field.

Behrend posted five runs in the top of the sixth inning to grab an 8-0 opening game win and repeated that feat in the fifth inning night cap for a 6-0 sweep.

In the opening game, Victoria Dzaak spent time in the circle through the first 3.2 innings and struck out one while giving up six hits and three earned runs.  Jaelyn
Gotham took over the final 2.1 innings and also finished with three earned runs against her as the Lions added five runs in the top of the sixth.

Morgan McNeill earned the Hawks' only hit as the host stranded three runners on the bags.

Rachel Miller collected ten strike outs limiting the Hawks' offense while Behrend tagged the score board with eight runs off eight hits.

Behrend continued their punch from the circle in the night cap as Zimmer pulled in nine strike-outs switching up her pitches which kept the Hawks on their toes.

Wyann Jackson singled right up the middle in the 3rd and Alexandria Wankel singled back to the pitcher in the 7th, but that was all the Hawks were able to muster.

Rachel Allen (3-6) took the loss giving up three earned runs with six strike outs.  Gotham appeared again in the fifth inning producing solid numbers in relief.  She struck out three, gave up two hits but finished with no walks or runs scored.

Hilbert (4-15) has a busy weekend AT HOME, finally!  The Hawks will play their first softball game on campus since April 26, 2014 since last season was washed out.

Hilbert hosts league-leaders, Penn State Altoona in a 1 / 3 pm double header on April 16 and then will appear as the guests on the scoreboard as they host Mount Aloysius College in a 12 / 2pm double header.
