Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Suffered Late-Game Loss

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's soccer team dropped a heart breaking 2-1 Buffalo Cup loss at D'Youville College tonight at Dobson Field.

After trailing for most of the first half, the Hawks knotted the game by half time.   But time ran out for Hilbert when D'Youville scored a late-game goal to secure their second AMCC victory.

The Spartans got on the board first in the 21st minute when they connected off their third consecutive corner kick over a five minute span.

The Hawks played smart soccer and battled to a 1-1 half when Garrett Rehner served a high ball off a restart.  Nicholas Margerum streaked in for the score and knotted the game at 41:10.

Hilbert managed possession in the second period.  The Hawks doubled D'Youville in shots (11-5) and corner kicks (5-2).

But one lucky shot angled from the right side of the field, streaking over Ryan Valentine's long outstretched arms and padded the back of the net as the game winner, in the 85th minute.

Matthew Barth (4) and Travis Hicks (2) attempted 50% of Hilbert's shots on goal while Peter Petruzzo finished with 10 saves for D'Youville.

Ryan Valentine was credited with four great saves.

The men's soccer team (0-7-1) closes the AMCC portion of their schedule this weekend when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg (0-7) with a 3:15 pm kick.  The Bobcats and seven other AMCC schools complete their season on October 25th while Hilbert (2-11-1) travels to Alfred State for a non-conference game.
