ELMIRA, N.Y. –
Matthew Buehlmann headed-home the Hawks lone goal as Hilbert slipped to Elmira College, 3-1, in a non-conference road game this afternoon. Michael Bryant tallied a hat-trick in the host's victory and dropped Hilbert to 1-2 on the year.
After Bryant's snuck the first goal in just 40-seconds after the kick-off, he struck again in the 8th minute to give the Soaring Eagles a two-goal lead.
Tyler Eister sent a nice ball in the box off a corner kick at 67:29 and Buehlmann elevated high above the crowd for his first score of the season.
Hilbert played a much stronger second half and challenged for another score before the final horn, but the wind was taken out of Hilbert's sails when Bryant beat Valentine in the 86th minute to pad their score.
Elmira held a 15-3 advantage in first-half shots, but Hilbert's offensive efforts and defensive coverage improved in the second period. The Hawks doubled their shots and cut Elmira's looks on frame in half. The royal and white also attempted five corner kicks in the second forty-five while limiting Elmira to two as compared to the first half lop-sided 8-1 home team advantage.
Goal keeper
Ryan Valentine went the complete game and brushed aside eight saves to increase his season total to 27 for a .794 save percentage.
The Hawks hit the road again early next week when they travel to Thiel College for a double-header non-conference contest with the women's team. Fans can follow
