Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Wolfpack Claims NEAC Victory over Volleyball

ALTOONA, Pa. – Eight total points proved to be the difference maker in Hilbert College's three-set loss to Keuka College in men's volleyball this morning.  The Hawks strung together 68 points while Keuka reached 76 points for the sweep on Day 2 of the NEAC cross-over matches at Penn State Altoona.

Freshman Bryce Perry led Hilbert's offensive attack posting a .438 attack percentage posting eight kills with only a single hitting error. Ryan Ratajczak continued to give Hilbert defensive coverage and was credited with 15 digs.

Andrew Duncan inched closer as he picked up three more block assists, but Brett Kane (5 kills) and Andrew Wolbert (four kills) notched four block assists each.

Adam Heftka assisted on 20 of the Hawks 25 team kills.

Keuka almost doubled the Hawks points off kills (46-25) but the Wolfpack handed Hilbert 13 points from service errors.  The Hawks were credited with nine total blocks while Keuka netted only four.

Keuka jumped all over Hilbert in the first minutes of the opening game.  The Wolfpack held a 6-0 lead earning five points and getting one helper from a Hilbert error.  Korey Schwab's kill gave the Hawks their first earned point setting the score 8-3.  Keuka held a 6 to 7 point lead for a majority of the game until the Hawks cut the score to two points (21-19).  Thanks to whistles against Keuka, Hilbert pulled to within two points (24-22) before the Wolfpack earned a 25-22 victory.

The second set was an exciting game.  Only one point separated both teams until Hilbert strung together four-straight points to grab an 11-8 lead.  Schwab, Kane and Wolbert all earned kills in that stretch.  After trading points and leads, Keuka built a 21-18 lead before the Hawks responded again.   Hilbert rushed out to a 24-21 score but suffered through three straight kills from Keuka.  After a Hilbert timeout, the Hawks produced back-to-back hitting errors which gave Keuka the 26-24 set win.

Andrew Duncan earned two of the Hawks opening points in the third set to give Hilbert a 4-1 early lead.  Keuka went on a 5-0 run to take a 6-4 lead and never trailed from there.  Hilbert did knot the game at 22-22 off an Adam Heftka kill which forced a Keuka timeout.  The Wolfpack closed out the game earning two of the three final markers for the 25-22 match victory.

HIlbert (1-16, 1-5) returns to action at 1pm vs the hosts of the NEAC cross-over match, Penn State Altoona.
