PITTSBURGH, Pa – Sophomore forward
Travis Hicks scored a pair of first half goals to give Hilbert a 2-1 lead at intermission but the Redhawks from La Roche rallied back to claim a 3-2, 1st Round play-off victory at home.
Sophomore defender
Nicholas Clay served the ball twice to Hicks for his two scores, both within the game's first 20-minutes. Hicks found the back of the net off a shot in the box at 12:15 and then again he was described as finessing the ball in the goal at 19:20.
Hilbert held La Roche in check until the 25th minute when
Ryan Valentine missed ball that sailed to the top right corner.
The hosts notched two more markers in the second half to win the rematch from earlier in the season. La Roche scored a penalty kick at 57:16 and seven minutes later found the game winner in the 64th minute.
La Roche held a five shot advantage in the game and were credited with 12 shots on goal. Valentine collected nine saves in his first complete season between the pipes.
Matthew Buehlmann and
Matthew Barth were each carded with a pair of shots on goal along with Hicks' triple attempt.
Hilbert completed their season at 4-11-1 overall and a 6th seed in the AMCC play-offs with 3-5-1 record.
The other 1st Round game today featured #4 Penn State Altoona shutting out #5 Medaille College; The Lions will travel to #1 seed Mount Aloysius mid-week and La Roche moves on to battle #2 Penn State Behrend on Wednesday. Follow
