BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's volleyball team earned their first victory of the season today in their 4-set Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match against Pitt-Greensburg just after they fell to La Roche College in the morning. Both pool-play games took place at Medaille College in North Buffalo.
Amanda Binder led the Hawks with 2.71 kills per set (.127) and added 2.43 digs per set over the course of seven sets.
Ashley Viengmay tallied 4.43 digs per set while
Morgan Ott produced another complete day with 5.80 assists per set, five service aces and an impressive 4.20 digs per set as the setter.
Serena Tecl posted seven service aces, all against Greensburg.
The Hawks (1-25), 1-7 AMCC) outlasted the Bobcats in the first set 26-24 before they slipped to Greensburg 25-18. Hilbert roared back and claimed the third set 25-14 and then held on for their final 25-22 win.
Binder collected 17 kills with only eight hitting errors and added 13 digs in the victory. Ott and Viengmay kept the Hawks in the game defensively as they each reached for 17 digs. Ott assisted on 27 kills while
Kamalei Lene was credited with six assists (four digs).
Chelsea Adamski also accumulated 10 digs and
Anissa Quiroga was the second-strongest hitter with seven kills.
La Roche College took no time to gather another victory to improve to 4-2 in league play. Hilbert was able to muster together 12, 15 and then seven points in the three-set loss. The Hawks struggled at the net with a combined 10 kills, 28 hitting errors out of 92 attempts. La Roche was credited with six blocks which added to the hitting problems for the 'home' team on the score board.
No one on the team put more than two kills to the floor but Viengmay and Quiroga worked hard on defense and picked up 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
Amber Hay and Binder earned a service ace each in the match.
Hilbert is excited to return to action this Tuesday, October 27th when they travel to Alfred University in a rematch of their 5-set loss a week ago at the Golden Eagle Invitational at Brockport.
