Box Score 2 BUFFALO, N.Y. – Hilbert women's volleyball team opened the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference portion of their 2014 schedule with two cross-over games hosted at D'Youville College September 27. The Hawks returned to action and dropped three-set matches to Penn State Altoona and Franciscan University.
Amanda Binder and
Jordan Botsford shared hitting duties against Altoona as they led with nine and six kills respectively. The Hawks were in each set but lost 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.
Morgan Ott and
Kayla Lewis assisted on 19 of the team's 21 assists with Ott delivering 12 and added a team-best two service aces. Botsford controlled the net and was credited with four solo blocks. When she wasn't above the net, she and Binder shared eight digs each. Hilbert, as a team, was whistled for 12 service errors which contributed to the final decisions tilting in Altoona's favor.
Franciscan jumped out early on Hilbert in the second match. They took 25-19, 25-16 and played to a 25-20 final set victory. The Hawks gave a great defensive effort as four players reached double-digit digs with one additional player trailing behind with nine
Binder recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Lewis led the Hawks with 16 digs (eight kills) while Botsford added 11 digs and six kills. Ott passed for 24 assists and secured nine digs and
Crystal Swanson gave Hilbert two points off service aces.
Olivia Tom brought up ten digs in her defensive role.
Hilbert (2-12) takes the Hafner by storm this Wednesday, October 1 when they host cross-town rival Medaille College at 7p in anther AMCC contest.
