Hawks Finish with a Win

Box Score
Hamburg, N.Y. - The Hilbert College women's volleyball team wrapped up their season on senior-day with a 3-0 win over the Mounties of Mount Aloysius. The Hawks three seniors, Kayla Lewis, Kaitlyn Murphy, and Jordan Botsford, were honored before the game began. Botsford capped off her strong Hilbert career with an all-around exceptional game.

The first set was full of momentum shifts between the two teams. The Hawks ran out to a 6-0 lead using Mounties errors to power the offense. Mount Aloysius made a run of their own to make it 7-6. The Hawks continued to extend their lead further. The Mounties, however, capitalized on Hawk errors and were able to tie the score at 12 and then continue to pull away. It looked bleak for the Hawks with the Mounties up by seven at 23-16. The Hawks pulled it together and slowly climbed back into the match. A strong kill by Botsford tied the score at 24 and stunned the Mounties who thought the set was over. Hilbert won the tie break at 27-25 to claim the first set.

The second set had less momentum swings early on, as both teams battled back and forth. The two teams were dead-locked at ten until the Hawks broke away with three service aces by Amanda Binder and two by Morgan Ott. The Hawks never looked back and won the set 25-18. Botsford grabbed the last point for Hilbert with an ace.

Again, in the third set, the two teams battled back and forth. The score was tied up at seven, eleven, fifteen, and then twenty-one. An ace by Mount Aloysius put them ahead, followed by a Hawk error. Down 23-21, the Hawks, again, regrouped and used kills by Binder and Chelsea Adamski to tie the score at 23. The teams both notched up to 24 but Botsford broke the tie with a defining kill in the back corner. The set and game would end 26-24 due to a Mounties' ball-handling error.

Amanda Binder led the Hawks with 12 kills and two assisted blocks. Botsford finished the day with ten kills, two service aces, and six digs. Kayla Lewis finished her carreer by doing a little bit of everything as she added 6 kills, four assists, and eight digs. Morgan Ott dished out 25 assists in the win.

The Hawks finish the 2014 campaign with six wins and a final record of 6-25, 3-6.
