HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's volleyball team deserves your support! Please come out and cheer-them-on as they host a First Round Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play-off game Wednesday, November 6 at 7pm.
The Hawks, as the 4th seed, welcome back, for the second time this season, Penn State Altoona, the 5th seed. Earlier in October, Hilbert (6-3) captured a
3-2 victory over the Lions (5-4).
Altoona opened the match with a 25-19 win before Hilbert squeaked a 25-23 victory in set two. The Hawks and Lions were hot and cold in the third and fourth sets, as each team took a commanding lead for victory. Altoona earned a 25- 15 score before Hilbert stormed to a 25-14 win. Everything came down to the final 15-point set and Hilbert jumped out and held on for a 15-12 match win.
Altoona finished with one more kill (49-48) and better hitting percentage (.273 to .136) than Hilbert during the first match, but the Hawks earned more service aces and committed fewer errors (blocking/ball handling and receiving).
Amanda Binder exploded for 16 kills (.467) with many of them coming late in the match and two solo blocks that turned into momentum-killers for Altoona.
Allegra Johnson added nine kills and four service aces and
Shannon Memminger distributed 40 assists (two aces) while also chipping in 12 digs.
Chelsea Reischuck was credited with 17 digs, one more than
Jordan Botsford.
Altoona's Mariah McDowell (15 kills and four blocks) and Amanda Hammer (14 kills and three blocks) led the visitor's at the net. Leah Brutz carried the team's pace with 39 assists and four players reached for double-digit digs, led by McDowell (17).
For those who cannot travel to Hamburg for the match, please note it will be
streamed on-line.
The winner of this match continues into the AMCC semi-final match against Penn State Behrend (#1 seed and host) at 2pm November 9th. The other First Round match pits Pitt-Bradford (#6) at Medaille College (#3) November 6. That winner earns the right to battle the Barons from Franciscan at 2:30, November 9th.
